Sewdham chalk drawings
Chalk Drawings at Sewadham Ashram
While volunteering at Sewadham Ashram—a nonprofit that supports neglected members of the Dalit community in rural India—I collaborated with residents and staff to create a series of dissolvable chalk drawings. These ephemeral works became the foundation for a participatory art project rooted in visibility, creativity, and connection.
I documented the chalk drawings and digitally transformed them into culturally relevant coloring books. These books served multiple purposes:
They provided a creative bridge between isolated areas of the compound.
They offered an accessible, educational, and entertaining tool for both children and adults.
They functioned as interactive graphic materials for Sewadham Ashram, supporting outreach, empowerment, and fundraising efforts.
Animations based on the drawings were also created, further expanding the visual storytelling and reinforcing the voices of the community through art.
