shopfront studio - 4 years

6021 Shopfront began as an experimental art space and has since evolved into a vital Latinx art gallery and community hub. Rooted in the belief that art is not a luxury but a vehicle for preserving and activating cultural legacies, 6021 positioned itself as a catalyst for social, economic, and cultural change.

As a practicing artist embedded in the community, I used this platform to explore meaningful ways to engage with local concerns. 6021 operated without institutional barriers—bridging residents, businesses, transients, community leaders, and those often unheard.

Through initiatives like poetry installations in shop windows, guerrilla performances on city buses, and site-specific projects in barbershops, libraries, and vacant lots, 6021 made art accessible and relevant. The space supported emerging artists and entrepreneurs by offering free residencies, design services, mentoring, and educational workshops.

6021 brought art to the community and into everyday spaces—capturing portraits and gifting them to the participants, launching collaborative video projects, and fostering creative dialogue across generational and social lines.

6021 Shopfront effectively conveys a transformation from an experimental art space into a dynamic hub for community engagement and cultural expression
